The dial continues the luminous concept rather than merely matching the case visually. It is executed in white and enhanced with Super-LumiNova pigments, while the numerals and indices are printed in a different shade of white and the grey hands are filled with luminous material. In daylight, this creates a nuanced contrast between matte and glossy surfaces and between differing tones of white and grey. In darkness, the effect changes completely: the dial glows in blue, while the numerals and hands appear as darker silhouettes against the luminous surface. The display remains that of IWC’s established perpetual calendar format, with subdials for the date, weekday, month, and moon phase, and the four-digit year positioned between 7 and 8 o’clock. Inside is the IWC-manufactured calibre 52616, an automatic movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of 168 hours. It uses IWC’s Pellaton winding system, reinforced with ceramic components in highly stressed areas, and drives the brand’s perpetual calendar complication developed by Kurt Klaus. The mechanism accounts automatically for varying month lengths, inserts a leap day every four years, and includes IWC’s Double Moon display for the northern and southern hemispheres, with a stated deviation of one day after 577.5 years. Through the sapphire case back, the movement’s circular graining and blued screws are visible, as is the rotor medallion made from Super-LumiNova, which also glows in the dark. The watch is fitted with a white luminous rubber strap and a stainless steel folding clasp. Like the case and dial, the strap is enriched with luminous material, extending the blue glow effect across almost the entire exterior of the watch.
