The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar ProSet IW3296-02 debuted in 2026 as one of the first references to introduce IWC’s new Perpetual Calendar ProSet system, pairing that reengineered complication with a 42 mm Big Pilot’s Watch case in 18-carat 5N gold. In this version, the technical significance of the new calendar mechanism is combined with a warmer and more formal material execution than the Le Petit Prince editions launched alongside it, with the case, crown, and case back ring in gold and the dial presented in dark olive green. Its case measures 42 mm in diameter and 14 mm in height, giving the watch a more compact profile than traditional large-format Big Pilot’s Watch references while retaining the familiar structure of the line, including a broad dial opening, screw-in crown, and substantial case architecture. The convex sapphire crystal is anti-reflective on both sides, water resistance is rated to 10 bar, and the transparent sapphire case back reveals the movement. In this reference, the use of 18-carat 5N gold changes the character of the watch noticeably, shifting it away from the more instrumental feel of the steel and ceramic editions and toward a more classically precious interpretation of the Big Pilot’s Watch format. The dial is executed in dark olive green and fitted with applied gold indices and numerals, together with gold-plated hands, all filled with Super-LumiNova. This palette gives the watch a different visual balance from the blue Le Petit Prince models, with the contrast between the olive dial and gold furniture producing a denser and more subdued appearance. The calendar indications include the date, day, month, four-digit year, and perpetual moon phase for both the northern and southern hemispheres. Despite the complexity of these displays, the layout remains close to the familiar format associated with IWC’s perpetual calendars, preserving continuity on the dial while the mechanics beneath have been comprehensively reworked. Inside is the IWC-manufactured calibre 82665, an automatic movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of 60 hours. It integrates the new IWC-ProSet perpetual calendar system, which allows the calendar to be adjusted both forward and backward using a single crown position. Internally, the mechanism is fully synchronised and entirely gear-based, using multiple functional layers and flexible fingers to enable precise daily-step correction without separate pushers or sequential setting procedures. The movement also incorporates a recalculated moon phase reduction gear with a deviation of one day in 1,040 years, a nickel-phosphorus escapement, a silicon hairspring, and IWC’s Pellaton winding system with zirconium oxide ceramic components in highly stressed parts of the winding train. Circular graining and Geneva stripes are visible through the sapphire case back. The watch is fitted with an olive green buffalo leather strap secured by an 18-carat 5N gold pin buckle. In contrast to the bracelet-equipped steel model and the rubber-strapped ceramic Le Petit Prince version, this pairing reinforces the more traditional and dress-oriented side of the watch, despite the continued presence of the Big Pilot’s Watch case architecture and large luminous display. The result is a reference that presents IWC’s new perpetual calendar mechanism in a notably different register, less explicitly instrumental, but still grounded in the clarity, scale, and functionality associated with the Big Pilot’s Watch line.
